PUBLIC PARTICIPATION OPPORTUNITY

AMENDMENT TO THE LAND USE BYLAW - REZONING

The Town of Oxford invites you to attend a Public Participation Opportunity regarding an application for Rezoning of currently zoned Rural Development land to Main Street Mixed-Use Zone land.

A Public Participation Opportunity will be held on Wednesday, August 13^th, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in Town Hall Council Chambers, 105 Lower Main St, Oxford, NS B0M 1P0. 

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an overview of the proposal followed by an opportunity for questions and comments.  At a later date, a summary of the meeting will be provided to the Planning Advisory Committee who will consider a recommendation to Oxford Town Council. 

Written submissions will be accepted in advance. These should be directed to Linda Cloney, CAO, Town of Oxford at 105 Lower Main St, Oxford, or by emailing lcloney@oxfordns.ca no later than Tuesday, August 12^th, 2025 at 4:00 p.m.

Reminder from Public Works:

Fall Oxford Depot/Transfer Station hours start on Thursday, October 2, 2025, whereby hours are now Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

The Town of Oxford and Public Works will be closed today, Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Normal office hours will resume on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

Thanks again for agreeing to be a part of Oxford’s Santa Claus Parade: A Disney Christmas - we are so grateful!

The parade is this Friday, November 28th and will begin promptly at 6:30 PM. We anticipate that it will take approximately 30 min to complete the parade route.

The Parade Route is Main Street (from roughly the Department of Natural Resources), all the way to Water Street, then Water Street to Waverly Street and Waverly to the Arena, at which point you are free to go your own way.

Meet-up times and locations are as follows:

Walkers (Costumed and Banner Holders)

Please meet in front of the Scotiabank no later than 6:15 PM.

If you have a car to park, please park it in the first Oxford Frozen Foods Plant parking lot coming into Oxford.

Firetrucks

Please arrive between 5:45 PM and 6:15 PM.

Park in the Scotiabank parking lot.

Floats

Please arrive between 5:45 PM and 6:15 PM.

You will be directed to park in either the Department of Natural Resources or the Oxford Frozen Foods Plant parking lot when you arrive.

IMPORTANT: If you have any animals as part of your float (i.e. horses), you must park in the Department of Natural Resources as animals cannot be on the Oxford Frozen Foods Plant property.

I know you all have a copy of the guidelines, but in light of incidents in other communities, just a reminder that for safety considerations, no one participating in the parade is allowed to hand out anything at anytime. Please refer to the guidelines for other expectations.

Heritage Day offers an opportunity to reflect on our shared history and learn more about the stories that define the province we know today.

Observed on the third Monday of February, Heritage Day is a statutory holiday in Nova Scotia.

Since it began in 2015, Heritage Day has recognized a different honouree each year – a person, place or event that highlights an important aspect of Nova Scotia’s history. The honouree for 2026 is Joseph Willie Comeau.

Senator Joseph Willie Comeau

Joseph Willie Comeau (1876–1966) devoted his life to public service and to strengthening Acadian life in Nova Scotia. Raised in Digby County and educated at Collège Sainte-Anne, he worked across education, business and politics, guided by a deep commitment to community, culture and service.

Over nearly five decades in the Nova Scotia Legislature and the Senate of Canada, he consistently used his voice to support Acadian language, education and cultural expression, earning lasting respect for his leadership and integrity.
