Heavy Equipment Operator/Labourer

Public Works Department has a Full-Time 12 Month Term Opening for a Heavy Equipment Operator. The position will be within and follow the outline as of *3.02* of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (C.U.P.E.) Local 4623 agreement. Wages range are from $21.94 - $26.41 per hour, 40 Hours per week Monday to Friday plus Overtime, and Benefits.

The individual will be expected to perform various everyday tasks within the department when asked. The individual must be in good physical condition, and available for work overtime during emergency situations i.e. Water & Sewer Repairs, Snow & Ice Control. The individual must also have a valid Class 3 license with air brake endorsement, and a minimum of 5-years experience with heavy equipment operation & maintenance doing municipal work in streets (water & sewer repairs, asphalt paving, salting & plowing municipal streets) with the following equipment:

  • Rubber Tire Backhoe Loader
  • Front End Wheeled Loader with Wing & Plow
  • Trackless MT with Plow, Blower, & Salter
  • Excavator
  • Dump Truck with Salter, Wing & Plow

Public Works Operator/Labourer Position – CASUAL
Hiring immediately

The Town has a vacancy in the Public Works Department for an Operator/Labourer in a casual position (occasional, as needed, day-to-day basis). The position reports directly to the Public Works Supervisor and is responsible to perform duties related to the operation and maintenance of the Town’s water utility, wastewater, infrastructure, general operations, and winter maintenance. Experience as an operator as well as within the municipal government environment is preferred.

The successful candidate must have a Grade 12 diploma or equivalency, a valid class 5 drivers’ licence with air brake endorsement, some heavy equipment experience, be physically able to do manual labour as required, and work well within a team environment. The normal work week is from Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, with some overtime or call out required. This is a non-unionized position and is subject to all Provincial and Municipal Occupational Health and Safety rules and regulations. Based on experience, skills, and education the wage range is between $20.76 - $21.49 per hour.
